Dems Abandon Cuomo

Text

Despite pleas from the New York Times and the Albany Times Union, Andrew Cuomo’s abortion-expansion isn’t getting the support the governor needs it to. The Independent Democratic Conference, which, along with Republicans in the state senate, controls the floor schedule of the body, has introduced the bill without the abortion measure.

Their leader, Jeff Klein explained in a statement: “I have yet to encounter a single pro-choice Republican to make up for the few right to life members of the Senate Democratic Conference. The IDC would like nothing more than to bring this provision to the floor, but the votes just are not there.” Bloomberg News is declaring it dead.
