Kristol: Corker-Hoeven Border Amendment ‘Not A Serious Public-Policy Proposal’

by Andrew Johnson

The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol threw cold water on the Corker-Hoeven amendment to the immigration bill because it’s “not a serious public-policy proposal.” The amendment would double the amount of border-security agents, adding about 20,000 new agents.

Kristol was skeptical of “a lot of policy analysis behind this.” He pointed out that the Senate Judiciary Committee voted down 5,000 new agents in earlier negotiations, and wondered why the 20,000 number was suddenly being embraced.

“I don’t think it should change anyone’s fundamental attitude towards the bill as a matter of public policy,” Kristol said.
