Manchin Blasts Obama on War on Coal: ‘I Don’t Need An Adversary, I Need a Partner’

Text

Following President Obama’s climate-change speech yesterday, Joe Manchin, the Democratic senator of coal-heavy West Virginia, has hit the cable news networks to fire back at the administration’s new energy-policy plans.

“I truly cannot believe the direction they’re taking,” Manchin said on Kudlow & Company last night, adding that the coal industry has “been the whipping boy for quite some time” in the Obama administration.

“I’m not a scientist, but I don’t believe that the wind currents and the ocean currents begin or end right over America,” Manchin quipped on Fox & Friends this morning. “How are we all to blame?”

Manchin pleaded with Obama to consider including coal as part of his energy policy rather than trying to shut out the industry.

“I shouldn’t have to be sitting here as a U.S. senator fighting my own president, fighting my own government,” he declared. “I don’t need an adversary, I need a partner, and an advocate.”
