NOM President: ‘Incoherent’ DOMA Ruling ‘Leads to Discrimination’ Against Traditional Marriage Advocates

by Ian Tuttle

Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week that Justice Anthony Kennedy’s “incoherent” ruling in the DOMA case (United States v. Windsor) — “an absolute travesty” — will entail discrimination against traditional-marriage proponents.

“Saying that this truth — that marriage is the union of a man and woman — is somehow motivated by animus and discrimination,” said Brown, citing Kennedy’s decision for the majority, “leads to discrimination against those of us who know that there is something unique and special about husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, coming together in marriage.”

Brown says that there is little doubt that the precedent will be used to disenfranchise advocates of traditional marriage in the future.
