Corker on Egypt: U.S. Should Promote ‘Calm’

Text

Senator Bob Corker, the ranking Republican member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stressed that the United States need to promote “calm” during the turmoil in Egypt.

“Our role right now should be one of applying calm,” Corker said in an interview on Fox News Sunday, adding that the United State’s partners near Egypt should do the same.

“I don’t know what else our nation can do at this time other than to urge military to move along in a responsible way, to urge all parties to recognize they’ve been part of this process, it’s broken down.”

“We can assess what’s happened down the road,” he added, “and who caused all of this to occur.”

On the issue of U.S. aid to Egypt, Corker urged no immediate action. “There’ll be plenty of time to assess the aid issues,” he said.
