Judge Rejects Child Abuse Charges

by Dimitrios Halikias

Judge Debra Nelson has rejected the prosecution’s request to add a third degree murder charge on the grounds of child abuse. The ruling follows a heated exchange between the two sides in the case earlier in the day, in which the defense argued that the prosecution’s proposal to add a child abuse charge was “outrageous” and “bizarre.”

Nelson agreed with defense attorney Don West that a charge of child abuse was ungrounded. “I just don’t think that the evidence supports that,” she said, “I’m going to deny that being set before the jury.”
