Krauthammer’s Take: Dems Will ‘Rue the Day’ if Alter Filibuster Rules

by NRO Staff

On Special Report Thursday evening, Charles Krauthammer argued that Democrats will “rue the day” if they successfully use the “nuclear option” to change Senate rules.

“This is a classic study in hypocrisy,” Krauthammer explained, “because all the arguments were made about seven or eight years ago in the Senate and the players were reversed.” He believes that the proposal to alter the filibuster rules in regards to presidential appointments is “kind of reasonable,” but that it would set a bad precedent and would ultimately be a measure that the Democrats push back against once Republicans have the majority.

“If Harry Reid wants to drop the big one, go ahead Harry,” Krauthammer encouraged, since such a change in Senate traditions will only come back to bite him.
