WH: Not Sure When Obama Last Spoke with Holder about Zimmerman Case

Jay Carney isn’t sure when President Obama last communicated with attorney general Eric Holder about the Zimmerman case, particularly with regard to whether the Department of Justice will pursue federal charges against George Zimmerman. The DOJ alone, according to Carney, will decide whether federal charges are appropriate in the case.

Following Saturday’s verdict that found Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, several groups, including the NAACP, have pushed the Department of Justice to file criminal charges against Zimmerman. Holder is expected to address the situation in speeches later this week.

Later in the briefing, when asked whether Obama called the Martin family after the verdict, Carney said he had no personal calls to share, but didn’t believe a call took place.
