Democrat-aligned Public Policy Polling has some new numbers out of Virginia, and none of them are good for the Republican governor Bob McDonnell.
McDonnell, now has an approval rating that is underwater by six points, (36–41). He’s dropped eleven points with Republicans, eight with Democrats, and five points with independents. His favorability ratings are worse, albeit similar at 32 percent approval and 45 percent disapproval.
PPP lays the drop at the feet of McDonnell’s ethics troubles. Question four reveals that nearly half of those polled, 45 percent, do not consider him an ethical politician. Only 31 percent consider him ethical.
Virginia limits its governors to one term; the polling numbers do, however, indicate that it’s less likely McDonnell will be seen as a vice-presidential candidate.
The automated telephone survey of 601 registered voters took place between July 11 and 14 with a margin of error of +/- 4.0 percent.
