Vitter, Enzi Introduce Legislation That Strips Hill Staffers of Health-Care Subsidies

Text

Senators David Vitter (R., Louisiana) and Mike Enzi (R., Wyo.) announced today that they would introduce legislation that would require Capitol Hill staff members to go on Obamacare — without subsidies.

Earlier this month, the Office of Personnel Management had said that while Capitol Hill staffers woudl have go to on Obamacare plans, they could continue to receive employer subsidies to offset the cost of their health-care insurance, regardless of whether their annual incomes qualifed them or not for such subsidies in Obamacare.

“If Obamacare is good enough for the American people, it should be good enough for Congress, the President and Vice President, and other policy makers in Washington,” Enzi said in a statement.

“These recent maneuverings inside the beltway are precisely why the American people rightly despise Congress,” Vitter said in a statement.“Our legislation gets right to the core of the OPM ‘fix’ for Washington.”

There has been concern on Capitol Hill that top staffers would leave if the subsidies — which are substantial — ended, and resulted effectively in a significant pay cut.
