Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina wasn’t invited to speak at the events today commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington, although several African-American Democrats were.

The Wall Street Journal reported that “Mr. Scott was not invited to speak, but a spokesman said, ‘The senator believes today is a day to remember the extraordinary accomplishments and sacrifices of Dr. King, Congressman John Lewis and an entire generation of black leaders.’”

President Obama spoke, as did African-American Democrat congresswomen Marica Fudge (Ohio) and Donna Edwards (Maryland).
