. . . albeit by picking his wife’s 50th birthday over a joint campaign event.
With news that Paul would be in New Jersey next week to campaign for Republican Senate candidate Steve Lonegan, it looked like the Kentucky senator could finally make good on his invitation to buy the governor a beer after their spat last month. Christie was invited to the same event after recently endorsing Lonegan, but at a news conference today, Christie revealed he had a prior engagement.
“I had to choose between my wife and Rand Paul,” Christie said. “And it’s Mary Pat’s 50th birthday that weekend and I’m taking her away, just the two of us,” so he’ll gone the whole weekend of September 13, when Paul is in the Garden State.
“In a choice between Mary Pat Christie and Rand Paul, it’s no choice for me,” Christie said. “So, I’ll be with Mary Pat.”
