Representative Justin Amash, (R-Mich.) took to the radio waves on The Laura Ingram Show to blast Senator John McCain in the latest row of the two lawmakers’ ongoing spat. Amash criticized McCain’s statement that the exclamation “Allahu Akbar” is the same as a Christian saying, “thank God.” “Senator McCain’s response was completely ignorant and offensive,” Amash said. “Good people, whether they’re Muslims, Christians, or Jews don’t scream ‘thank God’ when they kill people. It’s completely outrageous that he’d say such a thing.”
Last March, McCain had called Amash and Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul “wacko birds” for a filibuster they conducted, which prompted a Twitter response from Amash:
Lately, Amash took a swipe at McCain by re-tweeting the senator’s tweet from 2009 about Libya and Moammar Qaddafi:
Late evening with Col. Qadhafi at his “ranch” in Libya – interesting meeting with an interesting man.— John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) August 15, 2009
The proposed intervention in Syria has been compared to Libya, where the U.S. conducted limited air strikes without congressional authorization.
Amash proceeded through the rest of the radio segment to criticize congressional leaders for how they have handled the proposal to intervene in Syria.
