Why Labor Lost Oz: Reason # 232

From the Australian:

Union boss Joe de Bruyn, a member of the [Australian Labor Party] national executive . . . criticised Mr Rudd for losing votes by campaigning on gay marriage . . .

“I personally believe that by talking about gay marriage, Labor lost irrevocably the ethnic vote, which is always strongly pro-Labor, and, secondly, it also lost those people who have religious outlooks, particularly the evangelical churches and sections of the Catholic Church and other churches which are opposed to gay marriage.”
