WH: ‘Certainly Reason to Be Skeptical’ of Syria Deal
White House press secretary Jay Carney tampered down optimism over the Russian proposal to force Syria to put its chemical weapons under international control. He said the administration wants to pursue the diplomatic development before assessing its viability.
“There is certainly reason to skeptical,” Carney told reporters Wednesday afternoon. “We are entering this with our eyes wide open.”
In his address to the nation last night, President Obama described the proposal as “encouraging,” but warned that it was “too early to tell whether this offer will succeed.”
