Boxer: Rand Paul ‘an Absolute Disgrace’

by Andrew Johnson

Rand Paul “owes the president a huge apology” for delivering a counter-response to President Obama’s address to the nation last night, according to one of his colleagues.

California Democratic senator Barbara Boxer labeled Paul “an absolute disgrace” on MSNBC this afternoon for arguing that military strikes on the Assad regime would potentially align the United States with al-Qaeda-linked opposition forces in the country. “Twelve years after we were attacked by al-Qaeda, twelve years after 3,000 Americans were killed by al-Qaeda, President Obama now asks us to be allies with al-Qaeda,” Paul said in his response last night.

“You’d have to ask him, he’s running for president,” Boxer said of Paul’s motivation to take on the president. “He was in the Senate for five-and-a-half minutes and that’s what he wants to do now.” If Paul chooses to run in 2016, which he would likely announce in 2015, he will have served in the Senate more than twice as long as then-senator Obama did before he announced his candidacy a month into his second year.
