Dodgers to Host First LGBT Night

by Andrew Johnson

The Los Angeles Dodgers will host the team’s first LGBT Night OUT event later this month, citing the franchise’s historical milestone in the racial integration of baseball as part of its inspiration.

“The Dodgers have been standing on the right side of history from the days of Jackie Robinson through today,” an executive with the team said. “We are especially proud to welcome and recognize the LGBT community of Los Angeles, an integral part of the city and of the Dodgers community.”

Fans can use the promotion code “OUT” to reserve tickets in the special Night OUT section when the Dodgers take on the Colorado Rockies on September 27, according to the team’s website. Part of the event’s festivities will include the singing of the national anthem by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. The team also said it will have a yet-to-be-announced celebrity first pitch.

Other Major League Baseball teams have hosted similar LGBT nights, including the Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins, and San Francisco Giants.
