Carville: Rand Paul Would Be ‘First-Tier Candidate’

by Sterling Beard

James Carville, the Democratic strategist who managed Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign, has high praise for Senator Rand Paul.

In a Vogue profile of Kentucky’s junior senator, Carville says that “If [Paul] announces, he’ll be considered a first-tier candidate.” Carville added that he would tip his hat to Paul if the tea-party favorite could broaden his appeal without losing his base.

This isn’t the first time Carville has praised a Tea Party-aligned freshman senator. In May, Carville declared Ted Cruz “the most talented and fearless Republican politician” he had seen in 30 years.
