A boisterous House Republican Caucus cheered its leadership’s calls for members of both parties in the Senate to take up the just-passed continuing resolution that would fund the entire federal government except for Obamacare.
“Many Senate Republicans have promised to leave no stone unturned fighting this bill, and all of us here support that effort,” Cantor said among hooting and hollering from his colleagues, calling out senators such as Ted Cruz and Mike Lee. “Now we’re calling on Senate Democrats to do the same thing.”
As Jonathan Strong reported, Cantor singled out four red-state Democrats facing reelection in the 2014 midterms — Mark Begich of Alaska, Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, and Kay Hagan of North Carolina — and called on them to support the resolution as well.
Speaker John Boehner called the bill a “victory for common sense” as well as the American people in his remarks. “The House has listened to the American people; now it’s time for the United States Senate to listen to them as well.”
