Carney on O’care Premiums: Comparing ‘an Apple Full of Worms’ to a ‘Fresh and Delicious’ One

White House spokesman Jay Carney said today that contrasting insurance premiums before and after Obamacare is not an “apples-to-apples” comparison.

Why? Because “it’s an apple full of worms compared to an apple that’s fresh and delicious,” he said, referring to the mandated benefits and guarantees attached to post-Obamacare plans.

Carney’s analogy came in response to a question from Fox News’s chief white house correspondent, Ed Henry. Henry had asked why a new report from the Department of Health and Human Services compared the newest projected health-care premiums with previous projections rather than with the rates people currently pay.
