Senate Rejects House’s Conference Proposal

In a 54 – 46 vote just now, the Senate rejected the House’s proposal for a conference between the two chambers to determine a compromise on the continuing resolution. House Republicans had already announced which House members would participate in the conference.

In a floor speech this morning, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell blasted the Democrats. “Senate Democrats could have passed any one of those compromises and averted this mess. Instead, they chose to shut down the government,” he said.

“Well, it’s past time for Senate Democrats to listen to the American people,” McConnell added. “The House has already done its job to fund the government – again and again and again.”
