Despite calls for him to bring a “clean” continuing resolution to the floor, John Boehner said it doesn’t matter: It wouldn’t pass. “There are not the votes in the House to pass a clean CR,” the speaker said on ABC’s This Week on Sunday.
House Democrats have largely supported a clean CR and, according to the Washington Post’s whip count, 20 Republican representatives have said they would vote for a clean CR if it was brought to the floor.
Later in the program, Senator Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) called on Boehner to back up his claim by putting the CR up for a vote early next week. “Put it on the floor and let’s see if you’re right,” he said.
