Poll: Seven Out of Ten Voters Disapprove of GOP’s Handling of Budget Talks

Text

In a new poll, high numbers of registered voters expressed disapproval of how President Obama and congressional Democrats and Republicans were handling the budget debate, which resulted in a government shutdown last week.

Congressional Republicans came in for the most ire, with 71 percent of registered voters in the Washington Post/ABC News poll saying they disapproved of of how they “are handling negotiations over the federal budget,” while 24 percent approved. Republicans are split on how they view their party’s actions in Congress: 52 percent approve, while 45 percent disapprove.

But fury at congressional Democats is only slightly smaller: 64 percent of registered voters disapprove of their actions. Fifty-five percent of registered voters disapprove of President Obama’s decisions during the budget debate.
