NRSC Recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Posts Link to Komen

Text

The National Republican Senatorial Committee website is commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month by going pink — and linking to a foundation that has generated controversy among pro-lifers.

At the top of NRSC page as of 5:36 p.m. Eastern, there was a link to the Susan G. Komen foundation, which announced in 2012 they would stop providing funding to Planned Parenthood, only to switch their decision days later in light of public controversy:

While Komen had provided the $680,000 funding for Planned Parenthood for matters related to breast cancer in 2012, various investigations have suggested Planned Parenhood does little to help women’s health when it comes to breast cancer. My colleague Eliana Johnson called up Planned Parenthoods last year after President Obama said they offered mammograms, and couldn’t find one that did. A larger investigation by Live Action last year similiarly found that no Planned Parenthoods contacted offered mammograms.

“This was a very simple effort to call attention to the fight against breast cancer and pay tribute to survivors across the country,” e-mails NRSC spokesperson Brook Hougesen.
