Fox News covered Providence College’s decision to withdraw its invitation to Professor John Corvino to speak about gay marriage.
Providence College is right in this limited sense: The rule Catholic colleges are supposed to follow is to have someone on the panel who can speak for Catholic teaching, which was not the original plan. The lecture is apparently being rescheduled as a debate.
What bothers me is that apparently nobody from the university has bothered to apologize to John Corvino for the rudeness of abruptly cancelling a speaking engagement he accepted in good faith. Following Catholic teaching is not his problem.
