Cruz: House Republicans Need to Keep ‘Standing Strong’

Senator Ted Cruz praised House Republicans for their firmness during the government shutdown and budget debates in a speech today.

“The House of Representatives needs to keep doing what it’s doing, which is standing strong,” Cruz told attendees at the Value Voters Summit.

“The Democrats are feeling the heat,” Cruz insisted, noting that he’d been invited along with other Senate Republicans to attend a meeting at the White House this afternoon. “If I’m never seen again, please send a search and rescue team,” Cruz joked.

He maintained conservatives were pursuing a smart strategy in the budget battles. ”The greatest trick the Left has ever played is to convince conservatives we cannot win,” Cruz argued.

Speaking about the pro-conservatives views of so many Americans, Cruz mused, “Why do so many Democrats pretend to be conservatives when they are running? For that matter why do so many Republicans do the same?”

Cruz also made an offer to President Obama: If Obama agreed to a q & a with ten conservatives, Cruz himself would do a q & a on TV with a hundred of Obama’s “most rabid supporters.”
