House Republicans to Huddle Tomorrow

by Jonathan Strong

House Republicans have announced a closed-door conference meeting for tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. One of the key questions the GOP must answer at the session is what kind of concesssions they will require for a deal to reopen the government. I spoke to Representative Matt Salmon of Arizona earlier today, and he tells me the CR deal must include a significant reform to Obamacare, with delaying the individual mandate for a year as his low bar for voting for it. Representative John Fleming of Lousiana, however, says he could accept concessions that are unrelated to health-care reform. House leadership is pushing Obama for something related to the health-care law, but senior Republicans are not optimistic that will be included.
