Christie Crushing Buono Among Women, Getting 34 Percent of Blacks
It’s no surprise that New Jersey governor Chris Christie is leading his Democratic challenger, Barbara Buono, by a large amount — but he’s doing especially well in a number of traditionally Democratic groups.
In the most recent Monmouth University poll, released yesterday, Christie leads Buono among women by 22 points (57–35) and leads her among Hispanics by six points, capturing exactly 50 percent of that demographic. He’s winning 34 percent of black voters, who went 95 percent nationally for President Obama in 2012.
He leads Buono 59 percent to 35 percent overall, an even wider margin than he held in October and August.
“We are looking at a potential 20-point margin in a blue state and an outright win among Hispanic voters. What more could a 2016 GOP presidential contender ask for?” Patrick Murray, the director of Monmouth University Polling Institute said.
