PETA Suggests Logo Change for Washington Redskins

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has now weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Washington Redskins’ name.

Rather than urge team owner Dan Snyder to rename his team, however, PETA has instead suggested that the logo should be changed to . . . a redskin potato.

“When you heard the word ‘redskin,’ what do you immediately think of? Potatoes, of course!” PETA wrote in a pun-loaded blog on its website. The organization praised the vegetable, arguing that it would “be a noble mascot for a variety of reasons,” and even managed to use redskin potatoes’ high antioxidant content to take a shot at the Green Bay Packers (“Take that, Cheeseheads”).
