Alaska Has Only Seven Confirmed Obamacare Enrollees

by Sterling Beard

Alaska isn’t having much luck signing people up for Obamacare. In fact, only seven people have been confirmed as signing up thus far.

Two Alaskans successfully used the federal Obamacare exchange,, to sign up on Monday and Tuesday. And Chris Fowler, an outreach and enrollment coordinator with the Alaska Primary Care Association, said yesterday that the state’s 25 community health centers have helped sign up five others, bringing the confirmed total of enrolled Alaskans to seven.

That number doesn’t include people who enrolled on their own and didn’t get help from certified counselors or Obamacare navigators.

Enroll Alaska, a division of Northrim Benefits Group that receives commissions from health-insurance companies for signing people up, hired 25 agents to help people enroll. They’d hoped to enroll up to 200 people per day, according to Tyann Boling, the chief operating officer.

“It’s just that the marketplace isn’t working,” she said.
