Mississippi’s insurance commissioner revealed that just 35 residents have enrolled in an insurance plan in the three weeks since the federal exchanges launched. All enrollees signed up with Magnolia Healthcare, one of two insurance companies offering plans on the exchange.
The other company, Humana, “wasn’t sure they had added anybody,” according to Commissioner Mike Chaney. He received that information as part of daily rundowns he gets from both carriers.
Chaney blamed users’ having trouble with the website for the low number, and said that with more “consistent access, that number would likely be higher.”
