A Good Week for House Republicans

by Rich Lowry

The Upton bill won’t become law, but through realizing its political power and taking it up quickly, House Republicans had a good week in the fight against Obamacare: They reinforced that they are the party opposed to these cancellations; they pushed the president into an action that, if it works, undermines the exchanges and if it doesn’t, shows yet again he isn’t keeping his promise; they forced the president to throw the insurers under the bus, potentially undermining a relationship that is central to the working of Obamacare; and the upshot of it all is a greater sense that the law is up for grabs. There is a long, long way to go, but to use an Obama-esque football analogy: Republicans moved the ball down the field this week.
