The Quick Fix

by Mark Steyn

My weekend column is about Obamacare. So’s everybody else’s. Democrats seem to think it can be “fixed”, and we can then move on to talking about “comprehensive immigration reform”, and the next train wreck. I think not. Here’s what I had to say back in March 2010, when, then as now, Obama was attempting a bit of constitutional sleight of hand – in this case, “deeming” an unpassed bill to have passed:

Whatever is “deemed” to have passed in the next few days doesn’t end the debate but begins it. If you’re sick of talking about health care, move to Tahiti, because in the U.S. we’re going to be talking about it until the end of time, or at least until the Iranians nuke Cleveland.

And so it has proved. “Health care reform” reform, now and forever.
