Ex-Secret Service Member, GOP Candidate Loses Insurance Under Obamacare

by Sterling Beard

Dan Bongino, a twelve-year veteran of the Secret Service and now a Republican candidate for Maryland’s sixth congressional district, says he’s had his insurance canceled by Obamacare.

Bongino kept his federal health insurance plan temporarily after he left the Secret Service to run for public office, and then obtained a version of the same plan on the individual market 18 months after he’d left his job.

Last month, however, he received a letter informing him that his plan did not meet the new mandates imposed by Obamacare.

“If the plan I had was substandard, then why is the government providing the exact same insurance plan to the Secret Service, the people who put their lives on the line every day to protect them?” the 38-year-old father of two asked the New York Post.

According to Bongino, the cancellation means that his premiums will rise $200 a month, and the plan will include services his family doesn’t want.

“Getting that letter was like a punch to the face,” he said, labeling the loss of coverage a “betrayal.”
