Oregon Health-Care Exchange Admits Revealing Users’ Information in Trio of Botched Mailings
It turns out that Cover Oregon hasn’t accidentally mailed out users’ private information once; it’s done it three times.
According to spokeswoman Amy Fauver, all three erroneous mailings, which occurred in November, revealed users’ private information to unintended parties.
She says that the exchange is investigating the cause, a process that made it easy to pick up the incorrect information from a shared printer. In addition to other corrective actions, when a form is incomplete, the state will mail out forms that are blank with the needed areas highlighted—the old system involved sending out completed forms with areas highlighted.
Fauver says the exchange will not be “sending out any personal information” under its new system.
