This Pope Francis Story Will Have Follow-ups

by Kathryn Jean Lopez

Politics and theology aside, Pope Francis just won this news cycle and probably the hearts of young men in need of inspiration. Speaking at a youth Mass, while encouraging young people to be counter-culturally transformed by Christ, he also reportedly shared that he once worked as a “bouncer.”

Catholic News Service puts it this way: “He told one group that when he was young, he worked as a bouncer, and that his work later in life, teaching literature and psychology, taught him how to get people back into the church.”

He advised the young people: ”Pray all the time, don’t speak badly of others because gossip destroys friendships, and always greet people nicely, always with a smile.”
