Gallup: Record 72 Percent Say Big Government Greatest Threat

by Katherine Connell

A new Gallup poll finds that a record high of 72 percent of Americans say that big government poses a greater threat to the future of the country than big business or big labor. That number has been steadily rising from 55 percent at the beginning of Barak Obama’s presidency in 2009. A record low of 5 percent say that big labor is the greatest threat, reflecting the waning of union power in the country, and 21 percent say it’s big business.

Republicans are unsurprisingly more likely to see government as the greatest threat (92 percent), but healthy majorities of independents (71 percent) and Democrats (56 percent), concur with that judgment.
