Virginia Dem. Compares Prosecuting Rapists to Fighting Tea Party
With control of the Virginia state senate in the balance, one Democratic candidate compared her legal fights against convicted rapists to taking on the tea-party-aligned members in the statehouse in a recent ad. After listing cases that resulted in putting the violent offenders in prison, Jennifer Wexton tells voters in the ad that “in the Virginia senate I’ll fight just as hard against tea-party Republicans.”
Wexton is running for Democrat attorney general–elect Mark Herring’s old seat with the special election set for January 21. This race as well as the one to replace the lieutenant governor–elect’s seat will determine which party controls the Virginia senate, as Republicans currently have only a one-seat lead.
