Senate Report Confirms Al-Qaeda Participated in Benghazi Attacks

by Alec Torres

Contradicting the much-vaunted New York Times report that claimed al-Qaeda had no role in the 2012 attack on the American diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, the Senate report released Wednesday affirms that individuals affiliated with al-Qaeda did, in fact, participate in the attack, McClatchy’s points out.

The Senate report found that while the attack was “not a highly coordinated plot,” it was still probably planned hours beforehand and that “individuals affiliated with terrorist groups, including AQIM [al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb], Ansar al Sharia, AQAP [al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula], and the Mohammed Jamal Network [also linked to al-Qaeda], participated in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack.”

The New York Times has not amended its Benghazi report.
