President Obama showed a little give on the pathway to citizenship the other day.
He won’t completely surrender on this until the very end, but he would be foolish not to. It is legalization itself not a pathway that is the crux of the matter, as we noted the other day.
So Democrats would be crazy not to take the legalization and come back to fight on a pathway later — and exploit the citizenship issue with Latino voters for all its worth in the meantime. If Democrats do abandon a pathway, House Republicans will claim a great victory, when they will presumably be accepting the core of the Gang of Eight approach — sham enforcement, an amnesty, and more low-skilled immigration. Ross was great on the insanity of this today.
