Grimes Dodges Keystone Pipeline Question

Text

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell’s (R., Ky.) Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes seems to have a difficult time when it comes to taking coherent positions on important issues.

For example, when asked Tuesday morning if she would support the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, Grimes gave the following non-answer: “I believe in a balanced, commonsense approach that both strengthens KY’s economy and avoids environmental risk. I will evaluate policy decisions on such issues based on that core principle.”

A recent Rasmussen poll found that most voters support construction of the pipeline and think it will be good for the economy. Eleven Senate Democrats, primarily from red states (like Kentucky), are on record supporting construction of the pipeline in a 2012 vote.
