The Deadliest War

Here’s a conversation starter for your next neocon-libertarian dinner party: If our friends at Wikipedia are to be trusted, the deadliest currently ongoing conflict originating in the 21st century is the Mexican cartel war. Of the seven ongoing major conflicts (defined as those in which more than 1,000 people a year die), the deadliest is a holdover from the 20th century: the eternal war in Afghanistan. Of the six current conflicts originating in the 21st century, the cartel war leads the bodycount at 113,000, though the Syrian civil war looks poised to catch up.
