Al Roker Lambasts de Blasio for Blaming Nat’l Weather Service for His Failure to Close Shools

As New York City got hit with upward of eight inches of snow over Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, Mayor Bill de Blasio decided to keep schools open.

Al Roker, NBC meteorologist and co-host of the Today show, criticized the mayor for his decision, which he said put kids’ safety at risk:

Responding to criticism, Mayor de Blasio said in a press conference that the snow had come “faster and heavier” than the National Weather Service had predicted.

Roker, watching the press conference, tweeted back the following:

When de Blasio was asked at the press conference about Roker’s criticism, he said, “I respect Al Roker a lot, watched him on TV for many, many years, it’s a different thing to run a city than to give the weather on TV.”

Roker responded directly to the mayor in another tweet:

A few hours later, he showed off evidence that the weather service predicted New York would get heavy snow:
