Dem Candidate in FL-13: Immigration Reform ‘Important’ Because We Need Hotel Maids, Landscapers
Florida Democrat Alex Sink, the former gubernatorial candidate who is running in a special election in the state’s 13th congressional district, says immigration reform is important so that the U.S. economy can have enough hotel maids and gardeners, jobs she thinks Americans won’t do in the U.S.’s “high-growth environment.”
“Immigration reform is important in our country . . . for obvious reasons, because we have a lot of employers over in the beaches who rely upon workers who, especially in this high-growth environment, where are you going to get people to work to clean our hotel rooms or do our landscaping?” she said on the campaign trail. “We don’t need to put our employers in a position of hiring undocumented and illegal workers.”
Sink is currently in a tight race with her Republican opponent David Jolly for Florida’s 13th congressional district; the election is to fill the seat of Bill Young, a long-serving Republican congressman who died in October. The election will be held March 11.
