Some Clichés Never Die

by Michael Potemra

This, from the web homepage of the New York Times book section, made me chuckle: “A memoir of the author’s father, a Prussian conservative who nonetheless opposed Hitler.”

“Nonetheless”! Because we know how much most conservatives, then as now, loved Hitler.

A shame, really; the books section is the only part of the NYT I actually read, except for Ross Douthat and Maureen Dowd, whom for different personal reasons I consider my homeboy (he used to work in our office and is now NR’s flm critic) and homegirl (she went to my college, which was not an especially large or famous one). Otherwise, I find I can do without the New York Times entirely.
