A gracious Matthew McConaughey gave a touching acceptance speech after winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club.
“First off, I want to thank God, because that’s who I look up to,” McConaughey said. “He has graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or any other human hand.”
He continued, saying that his faith has shown him it is “scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates.” He also thanked his late father, his mother, his wife, his children, and his co-stars and the production team of the movie.
Wrapping up, McConaughey explained that he motivates himself by always making his hero a version of himself ten years from the present. “I’m never going to be my hero — I’m not going to obtain that. I know I’m not,” he said. “That’s just fine with me because that keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing.”
