Jolly: ‘We Can’t Draw a Mandate’ from My Win

by Andrew Johnson

Shortly after his triumph in Tuesday’s special election, Republican Florida congressman-elect David Jolly poked Democrats for engaging in “spin control” for trying to understate his win, yet he also conceded that his victory wasn’t a commanding one. “We can’t draw a mandate from this race,” he told Fox News on Tuesday.

“We know that [Obamacare] represents a view of government that is of great concern to people across this country, and that’s true in this community right here,” he said, trying to make the case that the race was about more than the controversial health-care law.

While still at his victory party, Jolly said the work “starts tomorrow” for his reelection efforts in November’s election, as he expects it to be another close race.
