Jackson Lee: U.S. Has Been ‘Operating’ Under Constitution for 400 Years

by Andrew Johnson

Representative Sheila Jackson Lee gave us a peek into the depth of her knowledge of American history on Wednesday. Here’s what she had to say about the Constitution:

“Maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority — the Republicans, my chairman and others — for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years, operating under a constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not.”

The U.S. Constitution was actually ratified in 1788, some 225 years ago. The Texas congresswoman’s remarks came during a House debate on the Enforce the Law Act, which would grant Congress the authority to file a lawsuit against the president if he fails uphold his constitutional responsibilities.
