Rogers: ‘Putin Has the Upper Hand’

by Josh Encinias

Russian president Vladimir Putin has clearly “set the table to his advantage in any negotiation going forward,” said Representative Mike Rogers (R., Mich.) on Face the Nation Sunday morning.

Rogers said America’s problematic diplomatic relationships with Europe have caused us “real difficulties.” Rogers, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, is concerned with the concessions that the United States has offered Russia and how those concessions might hurt our relationships with the European Union.

Despite the risk of economic problems, Putin’s domestic popularity in the first quarter of the year has soared. “If you look at how this played out, clearly Putin has had the upper hand in this,” Rogers said.

In Putin’s head, according to Rogers, he is ahead going into any negotiations with Kiev, and America is just playing catch-up.
