Video: Narrow Escape from Houston Fire

by Tim Cavanaugh

Thanks to modern fancy phones we have this clip of a very hairy escape and rescue from a top floor during a raging fire in Houston, Tex. At 0:15 a worker stuck on the ledge of a (pretty flimsy-looking) building nicely executes a Hail Mary downward vault. At 1:15 the floor he just escaped from begins to collapse:

Bonus commentary from a nearby crowd watching the rescue includes observations like “Hell, he could just jump from there” and “I’d be jumping, man.” Because when you’re in the peanut gallery watching somebody else escape from a burning building, everything seems easy.

The Corner

The one and only.
